Casey’s Grill • Bar Unveils New Menu Designed to Help Guests Make Informed Choices
New Menu Features Health Check™ Items and Innovative QR Code
Mississauga, ON – October 25, 2010 – If you’re trying to make informed decisions about restaurant dining, Casey’s Grill • Bar has you covered with the launch of its new menu today. Featuring four Heart and Stroke Foundation Health Check dishes along with an innovative QR (Quick Response) code that provides instant access to nutritional and allergen information for every menu item, the new menu enables guests to make informed choices to suit their lifestyle needs.
“Guests come to dine at Casey’s for a variety of reasons. Some come to treat themselves, and others simply want to enjoy a delicious, healthy meal in a fun, relaxed setting,” says Grant Cobb, Senior Vice President, Brand Management for Prime Restaurants. “With the introduction of a variety of Health Check menu items along with a QR code that instantly provides nutritional and allergen breakdown for every item on the menu, all of Casey’s guests can make informed decisions about what they would like to eat and what items best suit their lifestyle.”
The Health Check logo indicates the menu items have met the nutrient criteria developed by the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s registered dietitians based on recommendations in Canada’s Food Guide. The criteria include both nutrients people should limit such as total fat, saturated fat, trans fats, sodium, as well as nutrients people should be consuming more of such as protein, fibre, calcium and vitamins and minerals. Health Check menu items can contribute to an overall healthy diet.
Casey’s new Health Check dishes include:

“We are delighted Casey’s Grill • Bar recognized the importance of offering guests healthier dining choices and took the initiative to develop, with Health Check, a selection of Health Check menu items to offer its guests,” says Samara Foisy, Registered Dietitian, Heart and Stroke Foundation. “All four items are delicious and healthy options for dining out.”
Casey’s new QR code makes it simple for anyone to see in seconds exactly what is in the dish they are considering ordering. A QR code is a matrix barcode that contains encoded information and is readable by mobile phones with a camera. Once the QR code is scanned, or the URL is entered on the device’s browser, the guest is taken to a mobile optimized website that provides the full nutritionals and allergens for all menu items. As an added feature, the QR code also provides wine pairing recommendations for each menu item.
In addition to the Health Check items and QR code, Casey’s new menu features 12 new menu items including an innovative and delicious variety of new hamburgers, sandwiches and salads.
